KAMPALA Dec 8 – Uganda’s legacy telecom operator UTL today launched a customer care portal via whatsapp as innovation and young consumers continue to drive the fiercely competitive industry. The operator says the platform that will be available through a dedicated customer care number, will handle all inquiries about UTL’s products and services including internet connections, mobile data and fixed lines.

“We are making it easier for our customers to interact with us and the number of people that have added us since we launched Customer Care via whatsapp is tremendous,” UTL’s Brand and Communications manager, Regina Corry said without divulging further details.

Ongoing SIM card registration after the 30 November cut off of unregistered subscriber numbers is also on going via whatsapp the company says. A customer can register their simcard, by sending a filled in registration form downloaded from the UTL website.
