Ugandan Anne Aliker appointed to lead Standard Bank’s Africa investment banking
Standard Bank Group has appointed Ugandan investment banker Anne Aliker as Head, Africa Regions – Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), marking a major leadership milestone for Ugandan professionals in continental finance.
The appointment was announced by Luvuyo Masinda, Chief Executive of CIB at Standard Bank Group, who praised Aliker’s “strategic leadership and consistent delivery across Africa.” He said her experience — from leading CIB Uganda to heading Investment Banking for Africa Regions and International, and most recently serving as Head of Client Coverage — positions her to steer the bank’s regional investment operations into a new growth phase.
“Our growth ambitions across CIB remain central to our strategy,” Masinda said. “Anne’s leadership will be key in shaping the future of our Africa business into its next chapter.”
Aliker, who becomes one of the highest-ranking Ugandan executives within the Group, said she was honoured to take on the role “at such a transformative time for the continent.”
“Our purpose — to drive Africa’s growth — is deeply personal to me. It’s about enabling African businesses to thrive, empowering our people, and connecting opportunities across borders,” she said.
Her promotion comes as several Ugandans continue to rise through the Group’s leadership ranks, including Anne Juuko, Regional Head for Global Markets, East Africa; Francis Karuhanga, Regional Chief Executive for Southern and West Africa; Doreen Rwakatungu-Musiime, Group Chief Audit Executive; and Patrick Mweheire, former Regional Chief Executive for East Africa and now a senior Group executive.
Mumba Kalifungwa, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Uganda, hailed the appointment as “a validation of the strength of Uganda’s financial professionals on the continental stage,” adding that it reflects Standard Bank Group’s commitment to nurturing African talent to lead Africa’s growth.
