Angola Aviation Regulator Accepts Iuri Neto as TAAG Accountable Manager

Angola’s aviation regulator has validated Iuri Neto as TAAG’s Accountable Manager, giving him ultimate executive responsibility for operational safety and regulatory compliance.

 

Angola’s National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) has formally validated the appointment of Iuri Neto, Chief Operating Officer of TAAG Angola Airlines, as the airline’s Accountable Manager, strengthening the carrier’s operational safety and regulatory oversight structure.

The decision, announced in Luanda on August 13, follows ANAC’s review of documentation submitted by TAAG and an assessment of Neto’s professional qualifications and experience.

The regulator determined that Neto meets the requirements for integrity, technical competence and management capability required to take on the role under applicable aviation regulations.

The appointment gives Neto ultimate corporate responsibility before Angola’s aviation regulator for key aspects of TAAG’s operational safety and regulatory compliance.

As Accountable Manager, he will be responsible for ensuring that TAAG’s flight operations and airworthiness activities comply with required standards, while overseeing the effective maintenance of the airline’s Safety Management System (SMS) and compliance with applicable national and international civil aviation regulations.

The position also carries authority to ensure that TAAG makes available the resources required to maintain safe operations and meet the conditions applicable to its Air Operator Certificate.

For an airline, the Accountable Manager is a critical link between corporate management, operational resources and regulatory compliance. The role places clear executive responsibility on ensuring that safety requirements are supported by the organisational resources and management decisions necessary to meet them.

TAAG said the formal acceptance of Neto’s appointment has been recorded in ANAC’s official records and in the airline’s operational manuals.

The airline described the validation as an important milestone in strengthening its operational governance, safety and compliance framework.

The move comes as African airlines face increasing pressure to strengthen safety oversight, operational resilience and compliance with international aviation standards as the continent’s air transport market expands.

Neto will retain his position as TAAG’s Chief Operating Officer while taking on the additional responsibilities of Accountable Manager.

TAAG clarified that the appointment does not change the composition of its Board of Directors or the allocation of its executive portfolios.

The airline’s management structure remains headed by Clóvis Rosa as Chairman and Miguel Carneiro as Chief Executive Officer, with Neto serving as Chief Operating Officer and Accountable Manager.

The other members are Joelson Vasconcelos, Chief Commercial Officer; Sandro Africano, Chief Financial Officer; Misayely Abias, Chief Maintenance and Engineering Officer; and Neide Teixeira, Chief People and Legal Officer.

The board also includes four non-executive members: Mónica Cristino, Adiron Alberto, Manuel Almeida, Maria Ricardo and Cláudia Jasse.
