Equity Bank Uganda tees off 2025 Kenya Golf Day celebration at Kampala Golf Club
Uganda hosts the 2025 Kenya Golf Day at Kampala Golf Club, with Equity Bank Uganda and partners championing regional unity through sport.
Golf enthusiasts from across Uganda will converge at Kampala Golf Club this Saturday for the 2025 Kenya Golf Day–Jamhuri Tournament, an annual one-day event commemorating Kenya’s Independence Day on December 12. This year marks Kenya’s 61st Jamhuri anniversary, and the tournament promises an engaging celebration of sport, culture, and regional camaraderie.
The tournament was officially launched last Thursday at Kampala Golf Club by Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Ambassador Joash Maangi, who emphasized that the event serves not only as a sporting occasion but also as a platform for strengthening regional ties. “Such ventures go a long way in strengthening ties in the region, integrating the region and making it stronger,” he said, highlighting the broader diplomatic and cultural significance of the gathering.
Equity Bank Uganda is among the key partners supporting the event, alongside Uganda Baati, Kenya Ports Authority, and Axian Telecom. Johnson Galabuzi, Segment Head Personal Banking at Equity Bank Uganda, underlined the institution’s commitment to fostering cross-border collaboration. “Our support symbolizes how partnerships and friendship drive us forward in achieving our shared values through sports,” he said, reaffirming the bank’s role in promoting regional cooperation.
Kampala Golf Club captain Charles Rukundo noted that the tournament would not feature professional golfers, meaning no cash prizes will be awarded. Instead, participants can compete for assorted prizes and state-of-the-art giveaways across multiple categories, including Ladies and Men in Groups A–C, as well as a guest player category.
The tournament will be played under the Stableford format, a scoring system that awards points for performance on each hole. This approach allows players to remain competitive even after a challenging hole, emphasizing consistent performance rather than penalising every stroke.
With preparations complete and excitement building, the 2025 Kenya Golf Day–Jamhuri Tournament is set to offer an enjoyable day of sport while reinforcing regional friendship, celebrating Kenyan heritage, and showcasing the unifying power of cross-border partnerships.
