Nile Breweries Limited has named seasoned beer industry executive Nkanyiso Mncwabe as its new Managing Director, marking a significant leadership transition at Uganda’s largest brewer.

Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) has announced the appointment of Nkanyiso Mncwabe as its new Managing Director, signalling a strategic shift at Uganda’s leading beer maker. His tenure began on 1 January 2026, following the successful completion of outgoing Managing Director Adu Rando’s tour of duty.

Mncwabe joins the Ugandan brewing giant from South African Breweries (SAB), a core subsidiary of AB InBev, where he most recently served as Regional Commercial Director. His two-decade career spans general management, revenue and trade strategy, and logistics, with a record of driving commercial performance across multiple African markets.

He previously led commercial portfolios in five South African provinces and held senior leadership roles in Lesotho and Eswatini between 2019 and 2022. He currently serves on the Boards of Eswatini Beverages and SAB SHARP, and formerly sat on the Maluti Mountain Breweries Board. Mncwabe holds a Master’s Degree in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa and is advancing his executive training through a leadership programme at Hult Ashridge International Business School.

In a statement, Emmanuel Njuki, Legal and Corporate Affairs Lead at NBL, said the company was confident in the new MD’s ability to propel the brewer’s next growth phase. “His proven track record of driving commercial excellence across multiple African markets, combined with his deep understanding of the AB InBev system, positions him ideally to lead NBL’s continued growth and strengthen our position as Uganda’s premier brewing company.”

Njuki also lauded Rando’s tenure, noting his role in guiding the company through major milestones in operational efficiency, market expansion and community impact.

Established in 1951, NBL operates breweries in Jinja and Mbarara and produces some of the country’s most recognisable brands, including Nile Special, Club Pilsener, Eagle Lager and Castle Lite. As part of the AB InBev family, the company runs one of Uganda’s largest local-sourcing programmes, supporting farmers in 32 districts through its barley and sorghum value chains.

The leadership transition marks a new chapter for one of Uganda’s most influential manufacturers, with heightened expectations as Mncwabe takes the helm.
