Uganda Airlines wins youngest fleet award for record 5th year

Uganda Airlines retained the crown of Africa’s youngest fleet for a record fifth consecutive time in the ch-aviation Africa’s Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award 2025. Uganda Airlines fleet is comprised of a pair of factory-delivered A330-800s and four Bombardier CRJ-900s, averaged 5.12 years. In addition, the carrier also operates a leased A320-200 CEO (Current Engine Option).
The Ugandan flag-carrier came ahead of Air Tanzania, Jambojet, Air Cairo and Air Austral.
The award is significant because young fleets are associated with higher levels of safety, and operational efficiency, as well as a small environmental footprint. Uganda Airlines operates 17 destinations in 13 countries and has made significant contributions to growth in traffic at Entebbe International Airport since 2019, when it started commercial operations.
Globally, Taiwan based carrier Starlux Airlines won the title of the youngest aircraft fleet at both the fleet and on a continent level for the third year in a row. Founded in 2017 Starlux which serves 31 routes has a fleet of 26 Airbuses, with an average aircraft age of 2.62 years.
ch-aviation says it established the Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award to honour airlines worldwide that recognize the importance of investing in modern fleets.
“By incorporating next-generation aircraft, these airlines significantly lower CO2 emissions in the aviation sector and enhance fuel efficiency. Sustainability remains a major challenge, demanding continuous innovation and progress. To acknowledge their commitment, ch-aviation presents this award as a tribute to their efforts.”
ch-aviation says that the award is based entirely on non-manipulable aircraft data and there is no jury or any other subjective parameter involved.
