Marketing legend Daniel Ogong pulls the curtain on 8 years at Stanbic
After nearly a decade at the helm of Stanbic Bank Uganda’s brand and marketing strategy, Daniel Ogong will step down from his role as Head of Brand & Marketing effective October 1, 2025, the lender said today.
During his eight-year tenure, Ogong became one of Uganda’s most influential marketing leaders, credited with shaping Stanbic into one of the country’s most trusted and respected financial institutions. He spearheaded bold, creative campaigns and championed investments in local sport and music, aligning the bank’s brand purpose with a wider ambition to drive Uganda’s growth.
His leadership earned the bank multiple industry accolades and cemented its reputation as a thought leader in financial services. Individually, Ogong was celebrated as Marketing Pioneer of the Year 2024 by Evolve Group Africa and named Professional of the Year in 2023 by peers at the African Marketing Confederation—recognition of his ability to turn brand vision into measurable business impact.
Stanbic Bank Chief Executive Mumba Kalifungwa hailed Ogong’s contribution: “Daniel has been instrumental in positioning Stanbic Bank as a brand espousing trust, innovation, and client-focus. His work has inspired our teams internally and also set new benchmarks for marketing excellence in the wider industry. We thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Reflecting on his journey, Ogong described his time at Stanbic as a privilege. “Leading the Stanbic brand and marketing strategy has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. Over the past eight years, I have had the honour of working with incredibly talented colleagues in telling the Stanbic story in a way that resonates with Ugandans and demonstrates our role in driving the country’s progress. I am proud of what we achieved together and confident the brand will continue to thrive in the years ahead.”
Beyond campaigns and awards, colleagues describe Ogong as a mentor and team-builder who nurtured talent within Stanbic’s marketing division and instilled a culture of storytelling that connects the bank’s purpose to the everyday lives of Ugandans. His influence, many say, will continue to shape the industry long after his departure.
To ensure continuity, Stanbic has appointed Diana Kahunde, currently Brand & Marketing Manager for Personal and Private Banking, as Interim Head of Brand & Marketing effective October 1, 2025. Kahunde, who has led several successful retail campaigns, is expected to steer the department through a smooth transition.
For Stanbic, Ogong leaves behind not just a strong brand but also a legacy of innovation, mentorship, and purpose-driven marketing. For Uganda’s marketing industry, his next chapter will be watched closely.
