Algeria offers 210 scholarships to African students in 2025, strengthens ties with Uganda
Algeria has announced 210 scholarships for African students in 2025, highlighting its continued support for education exchange and skills development across the continent.
The announcement was made during a bilateral meeting between Uganda’s junior minister for foreign affairs and docket holder for International Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, and the Algerian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Mourad Amokrane. The two officials met in Kampala as part of preparations for the upcoming ninth edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), set to take place from August 20 to 22 in Yokohama, Japan.
Ambassador Amokrane said the scholarships are part of Algeria’s commitment to advancing education and capacity building among African youth. He also expressed interest in deepening economic cooperation with Uganda, citing potential in sectors such as agriculture, particularly milk and coffee.
Minister Oryem welcomed the initiative, describing education as a key driver of development and noting the growing importance of African cooperation in areas that directly benefit citizens.
Both officials reaffirmed their countries’ participation in TICAD IX and underscored the importance of regional partnerships in advancing shared development goals.
