One of Uganda Airlines new CRJ-900 jets has embarked on an African tour under a partnership with Bombardier Aerospace which is showcasing the type’s new Atmosphere cabin to potential customers on the continent. Uganda Airlines is the first airline globally to receive a CRJ with the enhanced interior which features overhead luggage bins that are billed to be the largest in class.

According to Dr. Wolfgang Thome’s ATC News, the Ugandan airframe 5X-EQU , on Tuesday evening made a surprise appearance at the ExecuJet hangar at Cape Town International Airport where the welcome event of AviaDevAfrica 2019 was held.

Conference delegates got an opportunity to sample the cabin’s business class. According to ATC News, Bombardier is showcasing the aircraft as part of their African tour which will take them to several countries across the continent.

From Cape Town, 5X-EQU is scheduled to fly to Accra, Ghana after which it tour the West African region before making a return to Entebbe.

Uganda Airlines management were not available to provide details about the arrangement with Bombardier.

The first two of an eventual fleet of four Bombardier CRJ-900’s ordered by Uganda Airlines arrived in Uganda on April 23, to a tumultuous welcome by traditional dancers, government officials and member of the public. Commercial operations that will cover 19 routes are expected to commence during July. A third airframe is also expected to join the fleet during that month while the final delivery is scheduled for September.
