The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) recently held its 12th graduation ceremony awarding over 370 new Certified Public  Accountants (CPA-U), 40  Accounting Technicians Diplomas (ATDs) and 16 Certified Tax Advisors certificates following the May, August and November 2019 examinations.

This brings the total number of certified public accountants in Uganda 3,886. Speaking at the ceremony held at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala recently, the President of ICPAU, CPA Frederick Kibbedi asked companies and employers to look out for these young talented professional accountants and employ them.

“These young people that have graduated today and those in the past few years have been trained to serve and add value to your organisation. They understand the business environment in Uganda and beyond and will take your business to the next level,” he said

He advised the new graduates to uphold the highest form of professionalism and integrity if they are lucky to find employment. “Most organisations mind much about the integrity of their name and will only employ someone who will not jeopardize their name. If you want to make it big out there, you must follow all the professional ethics of accountancy as they have been taught to you,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, CPA Keto Kayemba, the Chairperson of Public Accountants Examination Board (PAEB) congratulated and recognised students that have been able to do their courses in two and a half years indicating that most students are taking these exams seriously and reading hard for them. She paid special recognition to now CPA Comrade Guma that finished his CPA-U course in a record two years.

“Today, you are being recognised as having acquired relevant knowledge, where is knowledge is good, it is upon you as an individual to exploit it and leverage on it to make your life better,” she told the new graduates

The CPA-U course is a professional course for accountants. It is bench-marked against the International Education Standards (IES) set by the International Federation of Accountants, and it is designed to equip students with relevant technical and professional skills, as well as the right professional values and attitudes to enable them to provide quality services, in an environment of increasing complexity and advancing technology.
