Kiira Motors ‘Beast’ embarks on 1200km epic journey
Crowds begin to gather around the Beast shortly after its arrival on Masaka this mkorning
Uganda’s budding automotive manufacturer Kiira Motors Corporation KMC, has today set off on a roadshow that will see its latest prototype ‘The Beast’ undertake a 1200 kilometre circuit covering central and western Uganda.
The trip will see the vehicle travel through Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale and Kisoro before looping back to Kampala through Ntungamo, Ishaka, Kasese, Fort Portal, Mubende and Mityana.
Engineers will use the trip, the longest ever taken by the vehicle to validate various aspects of its performance against design predictions.
KMC says besides that, the journey is also intended to give the public, whose taxes are funding the project, a sense of how their contribution is being used and how far the project has come. Enthusiastic crowds welcomed the vehicle at Nyendo, Masaka where it made its first stop this morning.
Based on the chassis of the Kiira EV Smack that had an integrated thermo-electric drive, the Beast is designed to have an augmented drive combining a petrol engine at the front and an electric motor driving the rear wheels.
