Italians get deal to come up with refinery FEED designs
August 14, 2018—Italy’ Saipem SpA was recently given a contract worth about $68 million to deliver front-end engineering design (FEED) for the Greenfield 60,000 barrel per day refinery in Kabaale, Hoima district in western Uganda.
The company is also part of the Albertine Graben Refinery Consortium (AGRC) which earlier this year the government awarded the contract to build the new refinery in a public-private venture. AGRC is made up of YAATRA Africa LLC, Mauritius; Lionworks Group Limited; Mauritius; Baker Hughes General Electric’s (BHGE) Italian subsidiary Nuovo Pignone International SRL and Saipem SPA of Italy.
According to Saipem, a key component of the 17 month contract, is the involvement of local vendors as much as possible. The consortium is expected to come up with bulk of the estimated $4 billion needed to complete the refinery, tentatively by the end of 2020 when the government wants commercial sales to begin.
