Equity Uganda concludes rollout of Abakyala ku Ntikko 2025 edition

Equity Bank Uganda concluded the rollout of this year’s edition its “Abakyala ku Ntikko” initiative, with a finale in Kiboga District, where guest speaker Ms Rhoda Nakintu, the Administrative Secretary for Kiboga District, implored women to embrace a savings culture. Additionally, Nakintu, who also doubles as the Chairperson of Bukomero Business Associates, advised women to cultivate financial discipline, including meeting their obligations to lenders promptly.
The Abakyala ku Ntikko initiative aims to support the growth of women in business through a suite of tailor-made financial products includes mentorship and access to affordable credit.
The bank which came to Kiboga after similar launches of the initiative in Kampala, Masaka, Iganga and Lira districts, run the Kiboga event under the theme of Accelerating Action for Prosperity in Business. The Kiboga launch attracted women entrepreneurs, financial experts and community leaders who used peer learning to take the women through lessons in business, financial literacy, networking, and trade exhibitions.
Lambert Kusemererwa, the Equity Bank Manager for Kiboga branch, stressed the bank’s commitment to supporting the women to actualise their business aspirations.
“Women are the backbone of our communities and when they are financially empowered, families and societies thrive. Equity remains dedicated to providing the necessary skills, financial tools and opportunities to ensure their success,” Kusemererwa said.
Highlights of the day included a mini-trade exhibition where women showcased their businesses, a financial literacy training session aimed at equipping women with essential money management skills and panel discussions featuring successful female entrepreneurs. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to open accounts on-site and gain access to banking services tailored to their needs.
“Through Equity Bank’s support, I have learned that consistent repayment opens doors to greater opportunities. The real obstacle to success isn’t failure – it’s never starting at all,” Nakintu said in her keynote speech.
Towards the end, outstanding women entrepreneurs were recognized for their achievements in good business practice. Among those awarded was Dorothy Ndagire, who emerged the best in credit repayment, Jesca Sylvia Nannyondo for her outstanding saving habits, with good turnovers on her business account and Maddy Nalubowa for her mobilization skills.
The event concluded with a networking session where attendees exchanged ideas, experiences, and contacts; further strengthening the community of empowered businesswomen in Kiboga.
