bombardierAs she goes shopping for aircraft, Uganda is unlikely to get the kind of discounts Iran has got from Airbus and Boeing for a combined order of 180 aircraft. The two dominant aircraft manufacturers often undercut each other in fiercely fought campaigns resulting in discounts anywhere from 40 to 60percent on the list prices.

Still, given the habit of inflating the price of public goods in Uganda, we bring you the average aircraft prices for the other three manufacturers that may be pitching to sell aircraft to Uganda. This is addition to our earlier installment in which we gave you Airbus’s prices for 2017.

BOMBARDIER

Obviously under pressure from the Airbus-Boeing duopoly, Canadian air-framer Bombardier has not increased prices for 2017

Q400 – $31.9 million

CRJ700 -$41.4 million

CRJ900 -$46.5 million

CRJ1000 – $49.5 million

CS100 – $76.5 million

CS300 – $85.7 million

EMBRAER

We could not get an up to date price for Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer, the other candidate for a fleet choice for Uganda’s new national carrier but the 2013 price list offers some useful pointers. Aircraft prices don’t increase drastically so adding 3 percent to the prices listed here offers a reasonable guide for pricing in 2017.

But Embraer is also competing in a difficult segment and it is quite possible that prices will remain flat even in 2017.

Embraer195 – $40 million  [this is the largest member of the family]

Embraer190 – $32 million

Embraer175 – $28 million

Embraer170 -$26.5 million

EmbraerERJ145 XR – $24 million [XR denotes extended range]

EmbraerERJ145 – $21 million

EmbraerERJ140 – $18 million

EmbraerERJ135 – $16.5 million
