Uganda Airlines Expands its West-African Footprint with Direct Service to Accra
Uganda Airlines has launched four-times-weekly direct flights between Entebbe and Accra, strengthening East-West African connectivity and opening new opportunities for trade, tourism and business travel.
Flag carrier Uganda Airlines has launched scheduled direct flights between Entebbe and Accra, Ghana, adding a new West African destination as the national carrier expands its regional network.
The service, which commenced on October 27, will operate four times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, providing a direct link between Uganda and Ghana.
The route extends the airline’s West African footprint beyond Lagos, Nigeria, while giving passengers from Ghana onward connections through Entebbe to destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
Minister of Works and Transport Fred Byamukama described the new connection as a practical investment in stronger links between East and West Africa.

“It is more than a new air route between two capitals. It is a new link between our peoples, businesses and economies,” Byamukama said, adding that air connectivity could support trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchange.
He said improved air links were also consistent with the vision of Ghana’s founding president, Kwame Nkrumah, for a more integrated Africa, arguing that connectivity was essential to translating continental integration ambitions into practical economic opportunities.
Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake said the service would improve connectivity between East and West Africa by reducing the need for passengers to make unnecessary connections through other hubs.
“By operating this flight, we are providing more convenient travel options while creating opportunities to develop passenger traffic in East and West Africa,” Wake said.
He described Accra as an important market for Uganda and Ghana, adding that the route’s value would be strengthened by onward connections available through Entebbe.
The launch comes as Uganda Airlines seeks to deepen its presence across the African market, using regional routes to support passenger traffic, business travel and tourism.

Accra is a major commercial, financial and diplomatic centre in West Africa. The new service is expected to provide additional travel options for businesspeople, tourists and other travellers moving between the two countries, while supporting commercial ties between Uganda and Ghana.
Byamukama also pointed to the importance of facilitating movement between the two countries, noting that Ghana allows visa-free entry to Ugandan passport holders across all passport categories. Such arrangements, alongside direct flights, can help reduce barriers to business and leisure travel.
For Uganda Airlines, the route also offers an opportunity to attract connecting passengers travelling between West Africa and destinations served by its network through Entebbe.
The route was launched on the shoulder of the airlines’ seventh anniversary. Uganda Airlines began commercial operations in August 2019 and currently serves 18 destinations spread across Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
