TAAG joins global IATA emissions platform to strengthen sustainability credentials
TAAG Angola Airlines has joined IATA CO2 Connect, a global emissions reporting platform that provides airlines with more accurate carbon footprint calculations, a move expected to boost the carrier’s sustainability credentials and competitiveness in international corporate travel markets.
TAAG Angola Airlines has joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) CO2 Connect initiative, becoming part of a growing global effort to improve transparency and accuracy in aviation carbon emissions reporting.
The move marks another step in the airline’s broader modernisation and sustainability agenda as carriers worldwide face increasing pressure from regulators, corporate clients and investors to demonstrate measurable progress on environmental performance.
IATA CO2 Connect is an industry-led platform that enables airlines to calculate and report carbon emissions using actual operational data rather than generalized industry estimates. Participating airlines provide information such as fuel consumption, aircraft type, cabin configuration and specific flight operations, allowing for more precise emissions calculations.
According to TAAG, participation in the platform will enable the airline to contribute directly to a global aviation emissions database while ensuring that calculations linked to its operations better reflect the realities of its fleet and network.
The airline said the initiative will help improve transparency and consistency in the environmental information shared with passengers, business customers, partners and regulatory authorities.
The development comes as sustainability reporting increasingly becomes a requirement for organizations seeking to measure and reduce their environmental impact. Large corporations, multinational institutions, NGOs and energy companies are increasingly demanding detailed emissions data for business travel as part of their environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.
By joining IATA CO2 Connect, TAAG expects to strengthen its position when competing for corporate contracts, institutional agreements and international tenders where environmental performance is becoming an important evaluation criterion.
Industry observers note that airlines capable of providing verifiable emissions data are gaining a competitive advantage in attracting corporate travel business, particularly from organizations with ambitious carbon reduction targets.
The initiative also aligns TAAG with broader efforts by the global aviation industry to improve emissions measurement as airlines work toward long-term decarbonization goals. Accurate emissions reporting is increasingly viewed as a critical foundation for tracking progress and supporting future sustainability strategies.
The airline said participation in IATA CO2 Connect supports its ongoing operational and technological transformation programme, which seeks to improve efficiency while addressing growing environmental expectations from customers and stakeholders.
