TAAG Angola selects Lufthansa Technik for 787 and A220 component support services
Angola’s national carrier TAAG, has signed with Lufthansa Technik, a 12-year Total Component Support (TCS) contract for its 787s, the first of which is expected to join the fleet next February. The agreement also covers the Airbus A220, which went into service with the airline in October.
According to a media statement released today, Lufthansa Technik will be responsible for TAAG’s Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP) for the carrier’s 787 and Airbus A220 fleets
“Starting with the arrival of the first aircraft in February and spanning a dozen years, both the airline’s Boeing 787-9s and -10s will receive the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) specialist’s proven Total Component Support (TCS). In addition, Lufthansa Technik will support Angola Airlines with an Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP), which does not only cover the new-built 787s, but also the Airbus A220 fleet the carrier is currently building up,” TAAG said.
The TCS gives the Luanda based airline access to Lufthansa Technik’s global spare parts pool, an arrangement expected to ease availability of components for TAAG’s Dreamliner fleet while delivering significant cost-benefits. The contract covers standard component MRO services, as well as AOG (Aircraft On Ground) support and parts-pooling and logistics work scopes.
Officials further said the “close cooperation” between the two companies “will enable the airline to maximize efficiency in its technical operations.”
According to TAAG, Lufthansa Technik was selected for its deep understanding of the technical characteristics of latest-generation aircraft. Under the contract Lufthansa Technik is also assigned to provide pre-delivery checks on the aircraft, scrutinising the manufacturing process on the assembly line, right through to acceptance for both the 787 A220.
“With no less than two modern aircraft types joining our fleet at nearly the same time, we are happy to rely on the renowned engineering expertise and the wealth of experience only Lufthansa Technik’s experts can provide,” said Nelson Oliveira, CEO and Accountable Manager at TAAG Angola Airlines. “With their strong support, we are looking forward to a quick ramp-up of our new 787 and A220 operations. Our partners’ reliable component support will moreover ensure a smooth 787 Dreamliner operation from day one.”
Lufthansa Technik praised the contract with TAAG Angola as marking “one of our biggest contracts for Dreamliner component services in sub-Saharan Africa.
“I congratulate everyone involved on reaching this significant milestone. My sincere thanks go out to the entire team of our valued customer for entrusting us with these important work packages, which are crucial for a smooth entry-into-service and seamless operation of their brand-new fleets. With our enormous experience in new aircraft types we look forward to supporting Angola Airlines in the best possible way,” said Lufthansa Technik’s Vice President Corporate Sales Europe, Middle East and Africa Kai-Stefan Roepke.
