Shoprite opens fifth store in Uganda
The South Afrin base is not time
South African retailer Shoprite will on April 4, open its fifth store in Uganda completing the takeover of space formerly occupied by collapsed Kenya retailer Nakumatt in the greater Kampala area.
The outlet at the Village Mall in Bugolobi is the fourth by Shoprite in Kampala and less than one kilometre as the crow flies from the Lugogo Mall store.
Realtor Knight Frank who has been filling the spaces vacated by Nakumatt has been advocating a supermarket rather than the hypermarket model which Nakumatt was pursuing. The move has resulted in a recovery of traffic to a point where previously struggling malls such as Victoria Mall in Entebbe have now rebounded.
