saabclassKAMPALA, SEPTEMBER 27 – Regular travelers out of Entebbe may have noticed that departing flights almost invariably fly away with near-full economy class cabins but barely inhabited premium class cabins. One such victim is South African Airways which features as many as 20 Business Class seats on its Entebbe – Jo’burg workhorse the Airbus A19 series.

Well, the carrier is now trying to break that jinx by offering upgrades from Economy to Business Class for only $200. The upgrade is done at the check-in counter and should be attractive for those who travel on tickets bought for them by someone else.

Although the front of the cabin normally comes with a superior bar and meal plan, SAA might want to rethink its seat layout which borders on the crowded. Unlike conventional premium class seating which comes in single or paired seats, SAA business cabins sits 5 abreast arranged in 2 and 3 seats either side of the aisle. Well as they say 2 is company and 3 is a crowd. Even the well heeled can only suffer such a seating arrangement for lack of a choice.
