Entebbe International Airport traffic growth extends into August
Passenger traffic through Entebbe International Airport maintained its upward momentum in August, setting a new monthly record.
According to Vianney Luggya, Manager for Public Affairs at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, the airport handled 243,089 international passengers during the month, including 116,507 arrivals and 126,582 departures. This translated into an average of 7,841 travellers per day and surpassed July’s record of 230,577 passengers.
Luggya attributed the surge to sports tourism, international conferences, and sustained demand on key routes.
The figures also reflected trends in airline schedules and load factors.
Uganda Airlines reported fully booked cabins on its London Gatwick flights, while Qatar Airways maintained double-daily frequencies on four days of the week throughout the summer season. Turkish Airlines also added a second weekly frequency between Entebbe and Istanbul on Fridays and Sundays.
Cargo operations remained solid, with 5,257 metric tonnes handled in August—comprising 2,010 tonnes of imports and 3,247 tonnes of exports. Fresh produce and perishables continued to dominate exports.
The figures highlight Entebbe’s strong growth trajectory. December 2024 had set the previous record at 222,301 passengers, a figure first surpassed in July and now eclipsed once again in August.
