Last year, Alvin Mbugua, the Uganda Breweries Limited Strategy and Finance director, took the overall prize.

During the news conference recently it was announced that this year’s awards are in eight categories up from the five of last year.

This year’s awards are in eight categories up from five and the event will run under the theme ‘Financing in Digital World’. Categories include CFO of the Year, Young CFO Award, Public Sector Award, Strategy Execution Award, Finance Transformation Award, SME Award, Not For Profit Award and Finance and Technology Award. Nominations are being received until September 16.

“All participants shall have to demonstrate proficiency in the seven vital qualities, normally called the quotients in the ACCA report of professional accountants. These include Intelligence, Creativity, Digital Knowledge, Emotional intelligence, experience, vision, technical and ethical skills,” Beatrice Isagayite, Head of ACCA Uganda said during a news conference recently. Similar to 2017, the best finance officers will be announced during a gala dinner at one of Kampala’s top hotels in October.

Deloitte Uganda managing partner, Norbert Kagoro, said the awards have been designed to help new and aspiring CFOs to advance their careers. “By participating in these awards, the young CFOs will have enough exposure that will prepare them for diverse responsibilities. The roles and responsibilities of today’s CFOs and senior finance leaders are more challenging than ever,” he said.
