Chief finance officers get chance to raise their profiles
August 16—Chief Finance Officers (CFOs) whose status is frequently overshadowed by Managing Directors and CEOs, will soon a have a chance to raise their profiles.
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Uganda and Deloitte have jointly launched the Chief Finance Officers Awards which will become an annual event. Deloitte is one of the world’s leading financial services companies and both agreed on a three-year MoU to improve the accountancy profession under the auspices of ACCA Uganda.
“CFOs have to deliver on a wide range of fronts, driving a more competitive finance function, establishing ever more robust risk management strategies and supporting organizations to develop. It is only right we reward them too,” Beatrice Isagayite, the Head of ACCA Uganda said. Online nominations are open from August 14 and will close on September 15.
The categories include The Best CFO of the Year; Public Sector CFO of the Year; Private Sector CFO of the Year; Finance Transformation Award and the Strategy Executive Award. Nominations are welcome from both the public and private sectors. A contestant can self-nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else.
However nominees must be Ugandan residents, a member of a recognized professional accounting body and been a CFO or Finance Director for at least three years. According to the organisers, the awards will raise the profile of the CFOs and highlight their role in developing good business, good financial practices, embedding environmental and broader social issues into strategic decision making.
Isagayite said such initiatives build further on ACCA’s commitment to develop the finance professionals the world needs and who are fit for the future.
