Uganda watchdog moves on non-certified electric metres
Officials say the exercise is aimed at enforcing fair trade and consumer protection. The exercise which follows several complaints from users on the quality of metres in the market is being conducted in collaboration with the
Electricity Regulatory Authority.
Consumers have in the past complained of over-billing by substandard electricity metres. “The intervention of UNBS is to ensure fair trade in the billing of power using the correct power measuring meters bearing a UNBS verification sticker,” said John Paul Musimami the Manager Legal and Metrology at UNBS.
Musiimami added that in order to completely rid the country of counterfeit metres, UNBS was going to strengthen enforcement at entry points as well as in the marketplace and offenders would be prosecuted.
