Stanbic unveils Digital Creators Summit, backs talent with new scholarship programme
Stanbic Bank Uganda has launched a scholarship initiative ahead of the inaugural Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit, signalling a major push to strengthen the country’s fast-expanding digital creator economy.
The Summit, set for December 11 in Kampala, aims to equip Uganda’s emerging generation of content creators with the technical, business and financial skills needed to compete in an increasingly global digital marketplace.
Announcing the scholarships at a media briefing at Onomo Hotel, Lois Aber Kwikiriza, Stanbic’s Marketing and Brand Manager for CIB & BCB, said the programme is designed to elevate both the quality and commercial potential of local digital output.
“These scholarships will give creators world-class capabilities to grow, monetise, and professionalise their work,” she said. “This speaks to our commitment to youth empowerment and digital transformation.”
The initiative comes as Uganda’s digital creator economy gains momentum, driven by rising internet penetration, youthful innovation and new forms of digital entrepreneurship. The Summit is being organised by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Ongea Africa and the Uganda Digital Society, with Stanbic Bank serving as lead sponsor.
A central feature of the event will be the Stanbic Digital Content Creator Annual Prize, which spans five scholarship categories: Creator of the Year, Emerging Creator Award, Social Impact Creator Award, Entertainment Excellence Award, and the Financial Literacy Creator Award.
Kwikiriza noted that the award programme aligns with Stanbic’s Women, Youth and Farmers (WYF) Agenda — a three-year, UGX 1 trillion initiative launched in mid-2025 to bolster access to credit, support enterprise growth and broaden digital and financial inclusion.
“This Summit aligns directly with Stanbic Bank’s purpose: ‘Uganda is our home; we drive her growth’,” she said. “We are expanding opportunities for young Ugandans, including those in the digital creator space.”
Joseph Kanyamunyu, speaking on behalf of Ongea Africa, said the Summit is positioned as a national development platform rather than a standalone event. The Ongea Skills Lab will offer training in digital production, business practices and entrepreneurship.
Regulatory and policy awareness will also feature prominently. The UCC plans to engage creators on licensing, online safety and responsible content practices, complemented by exhibitions showcasing ICT labs, device distribution programmes and the UCC Innovation Hub.
“We support platforms like the Ongea Summit because they encourage responsible content creation, digital safety and innovation,” said Kenneth Tweheyo, UCC’s Head of Competition and Consumer Affairs. “Together, we can grow a safe, inclusive and empowered digital ecosystem.”
The Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit is expected to draw creators from across the country, marking a new chapter in formal support for Uganda’s digital content industry.
