Uganda looks to deepen Gulf investment links at second Qatar forum
Uganda will this month step up its economic engagement with the Gulf region when the Second Uganda–Qatar Business Forum takes place in Doha on October 27, 2025.
The one-day meeting, themed “Uganda and Qatar in Partnership for Shared Economic Development,” will be held at Rotana City Center and is expected to draw senior government officials, investors, and business leaders from both countries.
Organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Qatar in partnership with KON W.L.L, the forum follows last year’s inaugural edition that marked a new phase in Uganda’s economic diplomacy drive.
Uganda’s Ambassador to Qatar, Dr. Stephen Chebrot, said the event reflects Uganda’s growing engagement with Gulf investors in sectors that underpin the country’s development agenda.
“Uganda welcomes Qatari investors to explore our country’s vast potential in agriculture, tourism, minerals, energy, manufacturing, and ICT,” said Dr. Chebrot.
The Doha meeting comes as Uganda works to expand trade and investment ties beyond traditional markets. Gulf states, led by Qatar, have been seeking partnerships in agriculture, logistics, and renewable energy — sectors aligned with Uganda’s growth priorities.
Key institutions expected to participate include the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotion Authority, Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), Qatar Chamber of Commerce, and Qatar Tourism.
The forum will feature panel discussions, B2B sessions, and sector-specific presentations aimed at translating ongoing bilateral engagement into tangible business outcomes. Organizers say the second edition will focus on converting investment interest into concrete ventures and joint projects.
The initiative is part of Uganda’s Economic and Commercial Diplomacy Programme, which seeks to attract foreign investment, promote exports, and build durable trade partnerships across regions.
As Uganda prepares for new phases of industrial and infrastructure expansion, the Qatar forum is seen as an opportunity to position the country more prominently within Gulf investment circles.
