KAMPALA, JULY 13 – Uganda domestic electricity users will enjoy lower power tariffs for the quarter to September after the Electricity Regulatory Authority announced a 2.2 percent reduction. That translates into a Ushs14.2 reduction for domestic customers that will now pay Ushs626 per kilowatt hour.

The commercial tariff comes down to Ushs566.9 from UGX 578, medium industrial consumers Ushs 524.7, large industrial consumers Ushs 349.5  while  street lighting comes down to Ushs 608.0 from UGX 619.5.

This is the second successive reduction in power tariffs this year after the domestic end user tariff peaked to Ushs 651 in the first quarter.

Although ERA’s order is dated July 11, Stephen Illungole from UMEME’s Communications department says consumers should not expect any refunds for consumption preceding the announcement.
