Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) has been named the overall winner of the Excel Award at the 2025 Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Taxpayers Appreciation Awards, earning recognition for its exemplary record in tax compliance, accurate declarations and consistent contribution to domestic revenue.

The annual awards celebrate organisations that demonstrate discipline in fulfilling their tax obligations and play a substantial role in financing national development. URA highlighted NBL’s spotless 100pc filing record across all tax heads and its substantial contribution to the national treasury. Over the last three years, the brewery remitted UGX 1.37 trillion in taxes, including UGX 341 billion in the 2024/2025 financial year.

Emmanuel Njuki, Legal & Corporate Affairs Manager at NBL, said the award reflects the company’s broader commitment to ethical business practices.

“This recognition reaffirms our dedication to doing business the right way — with integrity, transparency and full compliance,” he said. “Fulfilling our tax obligations is not just a legal requirement; it is an essential investment in a stronger, more self-sustaining Uganda. Every contribution we make supports the public services and infrastructure that uplift communities.”

Officiating at the ceremony, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija praised the country’s most compliant taxpayers for their role in advancing government priorities.

“Taxpayers are the backbone of national development,” he said. “Every kilometre of road, every health centre expansion, every classroom, and every government programme begins with your contribution. We want to reduce reliance on external financing by strengthening our domestic revenue capacity so we can fund our own priorities.”

URA Commissioner General John R. Musinguzi noted that the Authority had surpassed its revenue target for the year, collecting UGX 31.6 trillion against a target of UGX 31.3 trillion. He credited the performance to taxpayers who demonstrate discipline and a shared commitment to national progress.

“The taxpayers we honour today represent resilience and the highest standards of compliance,” he said.

This year’s awards also recognised leading contributors across sectors, with companies such as MTN Uganda and Total Energies Uganda acknowledged for excellent compliance practices and significant revenue contributions.
