Nabumali Boarding Primary School gets its first bus through Equity Bank’s asset financing facility
Nabumali Boarding Primary School has become the latest beneficiary of Equity Bank Uganda’s Asset Financing facility, acquiring its first-ever school bus to ease transportation challenges for students and staff.
The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Mbale District, marking a milestone for one of Bugisu’s oldest educational institutions. The bus was officially flagged off from Equity Bank’s Mbale branch before being received at the school amid celebrations attended by local leaders, education officials, and clergy.
Under the bank’s Asset Financing facility, Nabumali Boarding Primary School depositedd 20% of the total cost of the bus, while Equity Bank financed the remaining 80% with a loan that will run over a period of nine school terms — equivalent to three years.
“Asset financing allows institutions like schools, businesses, and individuals to acquire key assets such as vehicles or machinery without paying the full cost upfront,” explained Ronald Sam Nakhasanga, Equity Bank’s Regional Manager for Eastern Uganda, during the handover. “For Nabumali, this investment represents more than mobility — it’s about access, safety, and opportunity.”
The acquisition is expected to significantly ease the school’s long-standing transportation challenges, including moving pupils to academic events and facilitating staff logistics.
Head Teacher Beatrice Katami Wachaya said the new bus will not only serve the school but also benefit the surrounding community. “This bus is not just for Nabumali; it’s for everyone in our community. As educators, we strive to create impact beyond the classroom, and this is one of the ways Equity Bank has helped us achieve that,” she said.
Local leaders including Mbale District Education Officer Paddy Khaukha, Mayor Moses Kutoi, and Reverend Eridad Milton Shissa, the Diocesan Secretary of Mbale Diocese, joined the celebrations, commending the bank’s support for education and community empowerment.
Equity Bank says its Asset Financing product continues to empower schools and small enterprises across Uganda to access the tools they need for growth and productivity.
Nabumali Boarding Primary School, founded by missionaries in 1975, is partly owned by the Church of Uganda and the government. It remains the only boarding primary school under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme in the Bugisu subregion.
