September 24, 2018— MTN Uganda and Stanbic Bank Uganda scooped up several plaques at the 5th Digital Impact Awards Africa held in Kampala recently.

The Annual Digital Impact Awards Africa are organized by HiPipo Limited and aimed at recognizing and rewarding individuals and organizations across Africa that are spearheading the use of digital tools to lead continental economic transformation.

David Karubanga, a state minister in the Public Service ministry said technology has changed the way companies provide services to their customers. “Technology can solve all our main problems especially in service delivery. It’s upon the private sector to take advantage of the good environment provided by the government to innovate more,” he said.

MTN Uganda, the biggest teleco in the country, won the Best Financial Inclusion Services Provider award for its Momo service. It also took home awards for Best Financial inclusion Innovation of the Year for its Extra Float promotion, Best Data Internet Provider and an award for consideration for youth and arts advancement in the digital era.
Stanbic  was awarded for Best Banking App and Best Cards Payment Enabler while Centenary Bank won the Digital Brand of the Year award and recognized for Best Digital Consumer Experience.

HiPipo Limited CEO, Innocent Kawooya said the awards are meant to recognize companies that are changing the face of financial service delivery by using technological and digital innovations.

“This year’s awards are held under the theme ‘include everyone’, meaning the young, the old, the rural, educated and non-educated. Digital technology is one way through which everyone can be reached and included,” he said

Other winners included dfcu Bank as Best Promoter of Financial Literacy. The National Water and Sewerage Corporation took Best Digital Customer Experience by a utility brand, and Best Utility Brand on Social Media.

Uganda Revenue Authority, Standard Chartered Bank Uganda, Jumia, SafeBoda, Kampala Capital City Authority were also awarded
