Equity Bank Uganda, in partnership with the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), has officially launched the 5th Edition of the Equity NARO Golf Open. The three-day tournament, set for 27–29 November at the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club, Namulonge, will mark the bank’s 17th anniversary in Uganda under the theme “Swinging to 17 Years of Transforming Lives.”

The Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club, located within Uganda’s largest agricultural research center, has earned a reputation as a breeding ground for emerging golfing talent. Over the years, it has nurtured some of Uganda’s finest golfers, making it an ideal venue to combine sport, community engagement, and celebration.

Speaking at the launch, Claver Serumaga, Executive Director of Equity Bank Uganda, said: “This year’s Equity NARO Open is more than a tournament; it is a celebration of legacy, community, and the power of nurturing talent. Many of Uganda’s finest golfers began their journey here, and our investment in Namulonge reflects our commitment to shared prosperity and to walking hand in hand with communities to transform lives and livelihoods. To commemorate our 17th anniversary, the 17th hole will be symbolically marked as the Equity 17th Hole, representing every step of progress we have made together with our customers, partners, and communities.”

Sheila Aine, Lady Captain of the club, added: “The Equity NARO Golf Open allows us to showcase our beautiful course and continue building women’s golf in Uganda. We are excited for this edition and deeply appreciate Equity Bank and other partners who have come on board.”

Star golfer Meron Kyomugisha, winner of the 2022 Namulonge edition and the recent 27th Kinyara Golf Open, is expected to feature prominently, setting the stage for a competitive tournament. Professional golfers from Zimbabwe will also participate, highlighting the event’s growing regional prominence.

The Equity NARO Open has evolved from a simple stakeholder engagement activity into one of Central Uganda’s most respected tournaments, drawing amateur and professional golfers while fostering community development. The ongoing partnership between Equity Bank and NARO underscores a commitment to promoting sports, agriculture, and social impact initiatives across the country.

Over three days, golfers and spectators can expect high-level competition, networking opportunities, and special activities at the 17th Hole, celebrating 17 years of Equity Bank’s service and impact in Uganda. The public is invited to join the festivities from 27–29 November to witness top-level golf and honor the bank’s legacy of transforming lives.
